Dr. Shamsey Oloko

How did you get into mindfulness and why did you stick with it? What role does mindfulness play in your life?

During a retreat in a Tibetan monastery in Nepal, I got to know and love Buddhism as an art of living and a science of the mind. Even today, I still practice the Buddhist currents of Vipassana and Dzogchen, based on a secular understanding.

The philosophy of mindfulness as we know it in this country has evolved from Buddhism in order to meet the demands and framework conditions of the West - including in dealing with challenges in everyday working life. This is why both Far Eastern Buddhism and Western mindfulness have been very important to me for over a decade.

What is your motivation/purpose for your work as a MOMENTUM trainer?

What inspires and fills me with passion every day is the opportunity to show other people the benefits of a mindful lifestyle and bring them closer to it. Due to the different experiences, expectations and needs of the participants, every mindfulness training course is unique. In my eyes, the art therefore lies in using clear, understandable didactics on the one hand and authentic embodiment on the other to constantly create new stimuli and offers that encourage self-awareness and self-reflection.

As a MOMENTUM trainer, where do you most clearly see the importance and effectiveness of mindfulness training for companies?

In my many years of practice as a MOMENTUM trainer, I have repeatedly observed how a mindful lifestyle and regular meditation practice have led to a positive change in attitude. More mindfulness in everyday life leads, for example, to more clarity of mind, more composure in dealing with difficulties and more freedom of choice and self-management.

These changes begin at the level of the participant and then spread to the team. In other words: starting with the individual, mindfulness has the potential to change the culture of cooperation in teams and organizations towards more benevolence and humanity.

What do you think makes the MOMENTUM program unique?

There are several ingredients that make the MOMENTUM program unique. Firstly, it is the training period of six weeks in total. Mindfulness is a marathon and not a sprint, which is why sufficient space and time should be given to changing habits and attitudes

1

Secondly, the MOMENTUM program is supported by the accompanying MOMENTUM app and the formation of buddy pairs from the group of participants, which also contributes to the sustainability and perpetuation of mindfulness practice.

2

In addition to mindfulness, our MOMENTUM program also includes other important topics such as resilience and compassion and is based on the latest findings from neuroscience and psychology.
