Shaping the Future: Transformation with Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence
DZ Hyp is a leading real estate and mortgage bank in Germany. Its unique commitment to quality is reflected not only in its customer relationships but also in its approach to employees. DZ Hyp has been recognized multiple times as an outstanding employer, with training, professional development, and targeted competency-building as integral, high-priority elements of the organization.
‘In an ever-changing world, many people feel as though time is literally slipping through their fingers. While we cannot create more time, we can adjust our focus and direct our attention. We can notice when our thoughts begin to wander and gently guide them back. Through mindfulness, we can create inner clarity where the chaos of everyday life has caused us to lose sight.
— André Jahn, Senior HR Business Partner and Project Manager of the ‘Zukunftsfit’ (German for ‘future ready’) Initiative
-
In 2024, the Future-Ready! initiative was launched as a unifying framework for DZ HYP's transformation journey. Part of Future-Ready! includes a series of competency-based offerings designed to drive change from within the organization.
The focus of MOMENTUM was to foster leadership competencies in everyone. Leadership is a matter of mindset, not merely a position on an organizational chart. As such, all employees were provided with tools to navigate a rapidly changing (work) world, enabling them to take intentional action through focused self-reflection with a clear sense of direction and purpose.
-
As with many of our projects, our partner Dr. Svea von Hen first delivered two keynotes: one at the top leadership conference alongside CEO Sabine Barthauer and another digitally for all employees. This strategy is designed to raise awareness of MOMENTUM topics within organizations while emphasizing their economic relevance.
-
Quality assurance is a top priority for us. We therefore evaluate the experience of participants after each course. The following figures speak for themselves:
100% of participants rate the program as successful
100% of participants would recommend the program
100% of participants state that the trainers fully met their expectations
80% of participants report having further developed their mindfulness practice during the course
Through keynotes and courses, we engaged approximately 30% of the workforce with these topics within three months.
The measures reached employees across all departments, even in areas where mindfulness had previously seemed less relevant, such as sales, accounting, and IT.
-
‘This was the first course in my long career as a leader that fully captured my attention. I usually juggle many balls at once and manage to focus on multiple topics simultaneously. But for the first time, I didn’t want to think about the other tasks—I was completely focused on MOMENTUM. The trainers blew me away.’
‘Meditation was never on my radar; in fact, I had a rather dismissive attitude toward it. Now I feel it could be a great tool, and I’m excited to try it for myself.’
What positive effects have you noticed in your daily work after completing the MOMENTUM course?
‘Greater composure, a positive impact on communication within the team and with clients.’ ‘Improved mindset and better handling of challenging topics.’ ‘Increased resilience and focus at work.’
‘I exude more calm and composure because I genuinely feel it myself.’
‘The ability to maintain focus on tasks and stay concentrated.’
Mindfulness-Based Training for Top Executives on how to Navigate Change in these Times.
The REWE Group, headquartered in Cologne, is an internationally operating retail and tourism company with approximately 390,000 employees. Its unique organizational culture is a strategic priority. The mission statement "Together for a Better Life" is reflected in a responsible approach to nature, as well as in its customer- and employee-centric focus. This is also evident in REWE Group’s top employer ratings, which recognize its working conditions, training programs, family-work balance initiatives, and diversity efforts.
‘For years, we have been offering our roughly 200 top executives at REWE the mindfulness-based leadership program MOMENTUM to help them better tackle the challenges of these times. The previous cohorts, conducted in both German and English, received top ratings from participants, who especially appreciated the depth of content, the trainer’s expertise, and the practical tips provided. We highly recommend this program to anyone who has to navigate increasing complexity and high demands in their role.’
— Vivien Schmitt, Head of Executive HR and Member of the Supervisory Board.

Approximately 230 top leaders were deliberately equipped with tools to lead their teams confidently, clearly, and with a sense of connection through increasingly complex market dynamics. The goal was to strengthen their complexity management skills and foster an agile mindset.
-
We tailored our classic format to meet the specific needs of top leaders. Our blended learning approach, accompanied by app support and a buddy program, was maintained, while the live sessions were condensed into a 4x2.5-hour format to accommodate participants' busy schedules. From 2021 to 2024, we conducted five cohorts with a total of 40 participants.
-

Mindfulness as a Catalyst and Support in Change Processes
Siemens AG, a global leader in industrial automation and digitalization, has undergone transformative changes in its manufacturing facilities. We were particularly involved in the transformation of the Karlsruhe plant, which was recognized as Factory of the Year by A.T. Kearney in 2021.
‘Previously, we weren’t convinced that resilience or mindfulness had a place on the shop floor, but now we fully stand behind it.’
- Manfred Kirchberger, Head of Global Factory Network, Siemens AG Digital Industries.
-
The goal was to position Siemens plants as leading players in their field, while strategically advancing them under conditions of high uncertainty and rapid change. A key focus was on improving productivity and organizational resilience. In particular, equipping leaders with the tools needed to effectively manage such large-scale transformation initiatives was critical, and the MOMENTUM courses directly contributed to this objective.
-
Siemens adopted a holistic transformation approach, integrating technological and human elements. This included an agile transformation of the organization and embedding mindfulness and emotional intelligence into everyday corporate practices. We supported these efforts with a range of measures to help Siemens achieve its ambitious goals.
We began with a series of carefully designed keynotes to introduce mindfulness to employees at the plant and highlight its relevance. Between 2021 and 2023, we conducted 13 MOMENTUM courses and delivered tailored offerings designed to address the specific organizational and strategic needs of the plant. This included integrating mindfulness meditations into ongoing top management meetings.
-
The Karlsruhe plant achieved a 40% increase in productivity compared to five years prior and was named Factory of the Year in Europe by A.T. Kearney in 2021. These transformation efforts led to greater resilience and agility within the organization. Our support in internal communication and promoting mindfulness initiatives resulted in high acceptance and integration of the offerings. The evaluation of the MOMENTUM courses demonstrated exceptional satisfaction among participants:
100% rated the program as highly successful.
100% stated their expectations of the trainers were fully met.
83% reported they had further developed their mindfulness practice through the courses.
-
‘It’s easy to understand and apply in practice. You don’t need a degree to get started. The exercises don’t take much time, and most importantly, it’s fun.’
‘During the course, I diligently practiced using the MOMENTUM app every morning before work and even on weekends. I felt more relaxed during this time and gained a healthier sense of distance from everyday problems.’
‘In conflict situations, I now try to remain calmer and use some of the tools from the 'toolbox’.’
‘More mindful moments in the here and now.’
